Remember the old saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me?” I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty confident words have hurt us all.
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” (Proverbs 18:21)
We read about the woman caught in adultery, and the people were ready to stone her. Those stones would have killed her.
“A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together…” (Ecclesiastes 3:5)
If I’m going to cast away a stone, I’m hoping it’s something weighty that I need to eliminate from my life. If I’m picking up stones, may it be to help someone or to build something to make an altar or a memorial.
“Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 2:5)
“And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone…” (Exodus 20:25)
Let’s build an altar and wholly follow the Lord.
